Personal Interview (PI) FAQs: Personal Interview or PI is the most vital part of the selection process in an MBA admission procedure. The amount of weight age it carries varies from 30 per cent to 50 per cent and depends on the Institute of choice. It is, therefore, necessary to be prepared from beforehand with possible questions that can be asked, because failure to score required marks in PI cannot be adjusted even if your written exam goes well.
In the Personal Interview, you’ll be required to engage in a candid conversation about yourself and your goals with the interviewer. There are some set answers to certain questions but apart from that be as honest as possible. Although it is advisable, you don’t explicitly admit that you’re pursuing an MBA for monetary benefits. The PI will be kept healthy, positive, as less stressful as an MBA interview can get. But you can expect a friendly discourse on yourself and the curriculum during the interview.
In a PI you’ll be asked penetrating questions about yourself, your academics, current affairs, social issues, your personality etc.
They have your resume so they don’t want you to repeat that. Say something that highlights your personality and positive areas. Don’t answer in a stereotypical rote learning fashion.
Mention the careful thinking and decision it took to decide on an MBA and about your desire to learn managerial skills and develop your leadership qualities. Do not say something tall, that’s asking for trouble.
This is a casual question but to answer it you need to have an intricate knowledge of your hobby. If music interests you, then you have to be aware of the numerous genres and instruments and artists to substantiate your claim.
Begin with the positive aspects however small your city is. This reflects your general approach to an issue. Then gradually move on to the negative ones, maybe poor hygiene and frequent load shedding, but your manner must be hopeful for the future and not bashing. Mention something that the interviewers may not know.
Highlight the positive aspects that lead you to choose that particular institute. It could be the faculty, curriculum, connections with your favoured industries and companies and even the location.
You either prepared on your own or you joined some coaching institute to help you and others nothing wrong in saying both. Tell them you prepared alone with available materials. If however, you joined an institution let them know that since you felt you were weak in certain areas may be writing/ reading, hence you joined an institute.
