That is the reason why many candidates are trying hard to get a good place in the NEET merit rank. Now, many of you will wonder why we are considering the NEET result to be so important! There is a reason behind the utmost importance of the merit rank in the process of getting an admission in any one of your wished medical or dental college in the country.
Importance of the NEET result
Once the examinations will be conducted, each student will secure a mark in the exam. According to this mark, they will be assigned a rank or place in the merit list of the NEET examination. The more the marks, higher the rank will be. So, in order to take an admission in the college, you will need to have a good rank in the merit list, most preferably at the top.
Now coming to the question about the admission procedure. The admission to a medical or dental college is not at all a direct admission like the one we used to have in schools. Instead, the admission is done once the counselling process is over. So, what is this counselling process?
NEET counselling 2018
After the merit list is declared, the NEET counselling starts or what we consider to be the sorting process, starts. During this, each candidate will be allotted a college amongst the list of colleges they will submit to the system. The allotment depends upon the rank, vacancy in the concerned college and also the quota under which the student is being considered.
NEET counselling is organized based on two admission quotas:
1. The All India Quota according to which the students will be selected from all over the country at once and they can get admission in any college across the country.
2. The state quota which accounts for 85% will have students from the state concerned while the participating institutions too belong to the state itself.
State counselling 2018 will immediately commence once the AIQ counselling will get over. The AIQ conducting body, Directorate General of Health Sciences will send the state-based merit list and only then each state governing body will start their own counselling process.
