For getting admission in Top Engineering Colleges, students need to pass the following exams-
JEE Main Exam
Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Main is the national level undergraduate engineering entrance exam conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education for admission to BTech/BE programmes in 31 NITs, 23 IIITs and 22 CFTIs. JEE Main also acts as the first stage or preliminary exam for admission to 23 IITs including ISM Dhanbad. Every year, over 12 lakh candidates appear in the exam. This year, as many as 11,48,000 candidates have registered for JEE Main 2018, which is 50,989 less than last year.
JEE Advanced Exam
Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced is conducted by the seven zonal IITs with guidance from the Joint Admission Board (JAB). Only the top 2.4 lakh rank holders in JEE Main are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced. Till 2017, 2.2 lakh students were eligible to sit for the exam.
Candidates seeking admissions in bachelor’s programmes, integrated master’s programmes as well as dual degree programmes at the 19 IITs and Indian School of Mines (ISM) need to clear JEE Advanced.
The exam dates for JEE Advanced 2018 have been declared. The exam will be held on May 20, 2018, and IIT Kanpur will be an organising institute of JEE Advanced.
Reservation of Seats
As per the JEE Advanced 2018 information brochure, “Candidates who are not citizens of India at the time of registering for JEE (Advanced) 2018 (by birth or naturalised) are treated as foreign nationals”. It is further shared that, “Seats allotted to foreign nationals are supernumerary. However, not all Institutes may have supernumerary seats. The availability of supernumerary seats was announced at the time of seat allocation”.
Candidates who are Indian nationals will be offered admissions based on seats reserved for the category under which they fall. This reservation of seats was done in accordance with the rules as mentioned by the Government of India.
UPSEE Exam 2018
Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University conducts Uttar Pradesh State Entrance Examination (UPSEE) to offer admissions to aspirants in professional courses which are available at the university along with institutes that are affiliated to the University.
UPSEE is a state level entrance exam wherein candidates can secure admission to government-aided as well as private unaided institutes that are affiliated to UPTU along with some other state universities of Uttar Pradesh.
