JEE Main is a national level screening examination, held every year, for students aspiring to secure seats into B.E., B. Tech, B.Arch. and B. Plan programs. NTA is the body responsible for organizing this examination. JEE Main 2020, will take place on 5th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 11th April, this year. The process of JEE application has started on 7th February. So, students who are interested to take this exam and secure seats into prestigious colleges, offering the above-mentioned courses, can keep in mind the JEE Main 2020 exam date and do the needful.

The candidates who are willing to pursue UG engineering programs in the renowned institutions like the IITs, NITs and CFTIs, have to qualify this exam by obtaining the minimum qualifying cut-off marks.

Before going into the details of the examination, let us have a quick look into the changes introduced this year:

  • This year, the exam will be conducted separately for B.E./B. Tech, B.Arch. and B. Planning courses. The candidates will have the option of appearing for all of them or separately.
  • The JEE Main 2020 fees for an application have been increased and can be paid online.
  • The JEE Main 2020 new pattern for exams is a very important thing to consider. The number of questions has been decreased and is 25 in number for each subject, compared to 30 last year. There will also be questions whose answers are to be filled in numerical values, other than the MCQs.
  • The JEE Main 2020, will also see a separate introduction of the paper pattern of B. Plan.
  • JEE Main 2020 will also be conducted twice a year, once in January and once in April in online CBT mode.
  • The age limit for appearing in the JEE Mains has also been removed from this year.
  • For the B. Arch and B. Plan papers, the candidates should have Physics, Chemistry and Maths as class 12 subjects.
  • The JEE Mains 2020 entrance examinations do not make it compulsory to have an Aadhar card.
  • The diabetic students are free to take fruits, water bottles and other medicines inside the centre.

For every candidate who will be successfully registering for JEE Main exam for April session, the board will allow correction of mistakes, if any with the help of JEE Main application correction facility. This would be a one-time opportunity for the students to correct any detail entered in the application form. If there is any correction to be done in the uploaded images, it will be started only after the application process gets completed. The students will be able to correct the details only through online mode and he/she has to pay an extra fee for that.

JEE Main 2020 eligibility criteria

Let us quickly go through the eligibility for JEE main 2020.

General eligibility

Qualifying Exam The applicant should have passed his 10+2 exam or its equivalent in the years 2018 or 2019 from a recognized university or board. Candidates who will be appearing for class 12 can also apply. Candidates with a diploma can also apply for getting admitted into the IITs.
Subjects The candidates appearing for their B.E./ B.Tech must have passed class 12 with 5 subjects, with Physics and Maths being the compulsory subjects.

For B. Arch the students must have passed class 12 with Physics, maths and Chemistry as 3 of the 5 subjects.

For B. Planning the students must have mathematics as one of the subjects in class 12.

Age There is no age limit for JEE Main 2020.
Total number of attempts There is no limit to the number of attempts made.

Eligibility for Institutes

For getting admission into IITs,NITs,IIITS, GFTIs,  and any other institution through CSAB, the general candidates should secure 75% whereas the SC/ST candidates should have a score of 65%. They could also be under top 20 percentile in the 12th level examinations. On the basis of the all India ranks secured, the admissions are provided.

The exam pattern

The JEE Main 2020 exam pattern, is a must check for all the candidates before they take the examination.

Mode of exam The entrance test is organised in online CBT mode. Only the drawing test for the B. Arch paper will be held in offline mode.
Number of papers The entrance test is held for B.E./B.Tech, B. Arch and B. Plan papers.
Type of questions The questions in both papers are objective in nature. There will also be numerical value questions. Only the drawing test of B. Arch paper is subjective in nature.
Total Marks B. E/ B. Tech paper will be of 300 marks whereas B.Arch. and B.Plan will be of 400 marks.
Number of questions B. E/ B. Tech paper will have 75 questions in all, B. Arch will have 77 questions whereas B. Plan paper will contain 100 questions.
Marking Scheme Every correct answer will be awarded 4 marks whereas for every incorrect answer 1 marks will be deducted.
Language medium The question paper is going to be available in Hindi, English and Gujarati and some other languages of other states.
Time The students will get 3 hours to complete a paper. Persons with disability of 40% and more will get an extra 1 hour.

 

 

JEE Main Syllabus

The JEE Main 2020 syllabus, has already been released by National Testing Agency. They are conducting JEE Main 2020 for three main papers. Paper 1 is for Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, paper 2 is for Mathematics, Drawing and Aptitude and paper 3 is for mathematics, Aptitude test and Planning Based Questions.

Result

The result of JEE Main 2020, for April session, can be expected on 30th April 2020. The candidates can check their results by entering their roll number and date of birth. After this declaration, the scorecard will be released online. The conducting authority will declare two types of ranks, the All India Rank and the Category Rank.

Cut off marks

The NTA has stressed on two types of cut-off scores for the three papers. They are qualifying cut-off scores and admission cut-off scores. JoSAA is responsible for releasing the opening and closing ranks for getting admission into the colleges after the results get declared. They will also be responsible for the counselling procedure.

In case a student appears for both the sessions, the better of the two scores will come under consideration.

  • How many times can a student attempt for the exam?

The student can appear for the exam as many times as he wants but he should have passed his class 12 exams in 2018 or 2019 or should be appearing for it in 2020.

  • What happens if a student fills multiple forms?

In case, a student fills up multiple forms, only one will be accepted.

  • Is a calculator allowed?

No, calculators are not allowed during JEE main exam.

  • Is Aadhar Card mandatory?

No, Aadhar card is not necessary to apply for the exam.

  • When will be the admit card released?

The NTA JEE Main admit card for April will be released on 20th March 2020.

  • How to get the admit card?

For downloading the admit card, the students will have to click on the online link which is provided and enter the password and the application number. They will also know about the release of the admit card via an SMS or email.

  • How to get the answer key?

The answer key will be available from April 2020, after the completion of the exams.

  • How will be the percentile score calculated for ranks?

The percentile score of the examinees is calculated with the help of the normalization procedure.

  • Which candidates can appear for the counselling process?

Only those candidates who have obtained the minimum cut-off marks are eligible for counselling.
