The School of Planning & Architecture, New Delhi had a modest beginning in 1941 as a Department of Architecture of Delhi Polytechnic.
However, School of Planning & Architecture was later affiliated to the University of Delhi. Also, it has integration with the School of Town and Country Planning.
Further, its establishment was in 1955 by the Government of India to provide facilities for rural, urban and regional planning.
Moreover, on integration, the School get a new name as School of Planning and Architecture in 1959.

Recognizing the specialized nature of the fields in which the School of Planning & Architecture, New Delhi had attained eminence.
In 1979, the Government of India, through the then Ministry of Education and Culture, gave School of Planning & Architecture, New Delhi the status of “Deemed to be a University”.

With this new status, the School of Planning & Architecture, New Delhi had broadened its horizon by introducing new academic and extension programmes and promoting research and consultancy activities.
The School of Planning & Architecture, New Delhi have recognition as “An Institute of National Importance under an Act of Parliament” in 2015.

The campus of School of Planning & Architecture:
The current School of Planning & Architecture campus is split into two blocks one each for Planning and Architecture.
Both these blocks are near ITO in Indraprastha Estate in New Delhi. The girl’s hostel of School of Planning & Architecture, New Delhi is located in the ITO campus. But the boy’s hostel and residential campus are located in New Friends Colony, Maharani Bagh, Delhi.
As of July 2013, the final plans for the new campus of School of Planning & Architecture, New Delhi in Vasant Kunj is final.
The current SPA Delhi campus is located near ITO in Indraprastha Estate in New Delhi.
The SPA Residential Campus and Hostel are at Maharani Bagh, New Friends Colony, New Delhi.
Also, a girls hostel is at Indraprastha Estate. A site of 20 acres is final in the south of JNU by the school. It is adjacent to Hotel Grand for developing a new campus.

School offers planning, architecture, and design engineering courses both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
While the Bachelor of Architecture course is one of the oldest in the country.
Highly successful Bachelor of Planning course came in 1989.
Besides this, the School offers 10 postgraduate programmes and 2 undergraduate programmes.
Along with this, the doctoral programmes run by all the departments of studies.
