About JoSAA Counselling 2020 : The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) is the authorized body that comes under the Central Government of India for taking admission in B. Tech courses IITs, NITs, IIITs and GFTIs based on JEE Main and JEE Advanced ranks. The process of JoSAA counselling starts from the authorities on dated October 06, 2020, the whole process is online based. The Registration is must for all the candidates before the final date to participate in the counselling process. Only the qualifier of JEE Mains 2020 and JEE Advance 2020 are eligible for the process of JoSAA Counselling. JoSAA Counselling 2020 will consists of seven rounds, before it there are two mock rounds conducted by the authorities that gives the tentative idea about what are their chances of getting a seat which they want and have filled at the time of registration for JoSAA Counselling 2020.
About JEE
Joint Entrance Examination is among one of the entrance exam conducted across India for admitting a students who had passed his Senior Secondary course and willing to opt Engineering or Architecture as his/her career. The courses are named as B. E./B.Tech, B.Arch and B. Planning courses. JEE is conducted by an autonomous body NTA (National Testing Agency).
The institutes that offer abovementioned courses across country are:
23 IIT’s (Indian Institute of Technology),
32 NIT’s (National Institute of Technology),
26 IIIT’s (Indian Institute of Information Technology),
30 GFTI’s (Government Funded Technical Institutes),
CFTI’s (Centrally Funded Technical Institutions).
About JEE Main 2020
JEE Main consists of three papers Paper I, Paper II and Paper III. Students have an option of choosing one or both the papers. Paper I is for admission in B.E./B.Tech. courses and conducted only via online mode (Computer Based Test). Paper II is for getting admission in B.Arch. and B. Planning courses. The paper II is also online test except one paper which is named as ‘Drawing Test’ and is conducted via offline mode i.e. pen-paper test. Paper III is for B. Planning course. Around 11 lakhs students take the JEE Main Exam. A student can give 3 attempts (counted both the sessions of the same year as one). The marks of JEE Main is percentile based and would be calculated on the basis of both the sessions and the better session exam would be taken into consideration.
About JEE Advance 2020
JEE Advance is the next step of JEE Mains Exam. The creamy layer or in other words the top scorer of JEE Main Exam would be eligible to take JEE Advance Exam. Around 2.5 Lakhs students were qualified to take this test. JEE Advanced is conducted by the 7 different Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) for taking admissions in 24 IIT’s which are located at different cities of India. Apart from IIT’s there are other institutes which accept JEE Advance Score these are namely- Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy (IIPE), Visakhapatnam
Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER) located at different cities like Bhopal, Kolkata, Pune, Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Thiruvananthapuram, Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT), Rae Bareli.

How to Calculate the percentile for JEE Main Exam 2020
There is a formula on the basis of which the percentile is calculated the formula is:
100 X Number of candidates appeared in the ‘Session’ with raw score equal to or less than the candidate / Total number of candidates who have appeared in that session.
Let us take an example:
Suppose if a student gets 70 percent marks and the total number of students who got 70% marks or less are 15000 in number, the total number of aspirants in that session is 18000, then the percentile would be: 100 X 15000 / 18000 = 83.33 %.

JoSAA Eligibility Criteria:
- An Aspirant must have passed class 12 or equivalent as per JoSAA norms or 12th with PCM subjects.
- An Aspirant must have qualified JEE Mains/Advance 2020.
Steps for JoSAA registration 2020:
Step1- First of all the candidates must register themselves on the official website of JoSAA. The candidate must fill in the general details and were provided with the ID and Password for future correspondence.
Step 2- Choice filling is the next step in which the list of courses and colleges are available for making the choice. The list shown is as per the eligibility in JEE Mains and JEE Advance. It is advised to choose the college as per the preference of the candidates. Choice Locking is the another part of this section where a time interval is provided to the candidates to lock their choice.
Step 3- There are two rounds of mock seat allotment before the final choice filling and locking where a candidate can analyse their probability in getting the college they preferred to take admissions in. Candidates can modify their Choice filling and locking before the last date of modification allowed for choice filling and locking by the authorities.
Step 4- Result announcement of seat allotment by JoSAA is done via online mode where an aspirant can check their seat allotment status of JoSAA Counselling 2020. At this stage there are four options available for the students to opt for i.e. Freeze, Float, Slide and Withdraw.
Step 5- At this step candidates have to pay JoSAA Counselling fee 2020 which Rs. 35, 000 for Unreserved Category and Rs. 15000 for Reserved category. The JoSAA Counselling fee is to be paid only via online mode through E- Challan.
Step 6- Candidates have to visit to the reporting centres as mentioned by the JoSAA and have to carry documents for verification process. If the candidate would not be able to reach the reporting centres in stipulated period of time his/her admission would be cancelled by the authorities.
JoSAA Mock Allotment 2020:
There will be the announcement of the result of the JoSAA 2020 mock allotment rounds in which the aspirants would be able to know the chances of getting the college of their preference. The process is online and enough time would be given to candidates for making changes in the order of their preference as it is not the final allotment of seats.
There are total seven rounds conducted for the JoSAA allocation of seats and it is done on the basis of keeping in mind many factors i.e. merit of the candidates, preference made by the candidates, availability of seats for allocation. At the time of allocation of seats candidate would be provided with Provisional seat allotment letter for which the candidate have to pay the pay a fee known as seat allotment fee which is to be paid online via challan. The seat acceptance fee for different categories is mentioned below:

JoSAA Seat allocation process:
Seat allocation is a bit complex process for the candidates as now they have four options to opt from i.e.
Freeze: Candidates accept the offered seat and tells that they are
Content with the allocated academic program and that they do not want to play a part in further rounds of seat allocation. Such candidates will NOT be considered in further rounds of admission.
Float: Candidates accept the offered seat and tells that, if admission to an academic program of better or higher first choice in any Institute is offered, they will accept it. Else, they will continue with the currently accepted academic program. Such candidates will be considered in later rounds of admission.
Slide: Candidates accept the offered seat and tells that, if admission to an academic program of better / higher preference is offered within the same Institute, they will accept it. Such candidates will be taken into consideration for the later rounds of admission.
Withdraw: If initially any candidate had accepted some college as per seat allotment procedure and doesn’t wish to join the college, he/she may report to the college and withdraw their seat before the final round of seat allotment.
Factors Affecting Seat allocation process in JoSAA Counselling 2020:
- The category [GEN, GEN-EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, GEN-PwD,
GENEWS-PwD, OBC-NCL-PwD, SC-PwD, ST-PwD] of the
candidate.
- The position of the aspirant in respective rank list(s).
- The order of preference of academic programs opted by the aspirant
(iv) The availability of seats in different seat categories or
quotas for which the candidate is eligible.
RANK LISTS
The following TYPES of rank lists will be prepared:
(i) Common rank list (CRL): It includes candidates who are assigned the tag GEN, GEN-EWS, GEN-PwD, GEN-EWS-PwD, OBC-NCL, OBC-NCLPwD, SC, SC-PwD, ST or ST-PwD. Foreign tag candidates are also
included in the CRL prepared based on JEE (Advanced) 2019.
(ii) GEN-EWS rank list: It includes candidates who are assigned the tag GEN-EWS or GEN-EWS-PwD.
(iii) OBC-NCL rank list: It includes candidates who are assigned the tag OBC-NCL or OBC-NCL-PwD.
(iv) SC rank list: It includes candidates who are assigned the tag SC or SCPwD.
(v) ST rank list: It includes candidates who are assigned the tag ST or STPwD.
(vi) CRL-PwD rank list: It includes candidates who are assigned the tag GEN-PwD, OBC-NCL-PwD, SC-PwD, or ST-PwD.
(vii) GEN-EWS-PwD rank list: It includes candidates who are assigned the tag GEN-EWS-PwD.
(viii)OBC-NCL-PwD rank list: It includes candidates who are assigned the tag OBC-NCL-PwD.
(ix) SC-PwD rank list: It includes candidates who are assigned the tag SCPwD.
(x) ST-PwD rank list: It includes candidates who are assigned the tag
ST-PwD.
List of Documents required to be presented at reporting centres for JoSAA Counselling 2020:
For NIT’s, GFTI’s, IIT’s and IIIT’s
- Four Passport size photographs
- Provisional Seat Allotment letter
- Admit card of JEE Mains 2020.
- Score card of JEE Mains 2020.
- Class 12th Passing certificate and Marksheets.
- Undertaking by the candidate.
- Medical Certificate.
- Proof of payment of E-Challan that had been paid by the candidate at the time of application.
- Category Certificate (If Applicable)
- Print out of the list of filled choices for Seat allotment.
- Class 10th Mark sheet for the age proof.
Once the students visit the allotted institute and present the above mentioned documents they get confirmed admission but if the candidate failed to report the allotted institute his seat would be allotted to other candidate.
REQUIREMENT of DUAL REPORTING:
If a candidate, who accepts a seat in an NIT, IIEST, IIIT (Triple-I-T) or Other GFTI’s by reporting at any reporting centre of NIT, IIEST, IIIT (Triple-I-T) and Other-GFTI in a particular round of seat distribution, is owed a seat in an IIT in any further round of seat allocation, the candidate must report at a reporting centre of the IITs to accept the seat within the reporting deadline timing of that round of seat allocation. Seat allocation in an IIT in following round(s) automatically cancels the earlier accepted seat in an NIT, IIEST, IIIT (Triple-I-T) or Other-GFTI. Therefore, if a candidate failed to report at the reporting centre of the IITs to accept his or her newly allocated seat would lead to seat cancellation and the candidate will be out of JoSAA process for 2020. The candidate need not to pay any other charges if he accepts the seats at the reporting centre in case of dual reporting.
- There is no need for dual reporting is required if candidates who are owed seats only in IITs in all rounds of seat allocation process. There is requirement of only first time reporting at a reporting centre of IITs is required.
- Likewise, there is no need for dual reporting is required for candidates who are allocated seats only in NIT, IIEST, IIIT (Triple-I-T) or Other-GFTI in all rounds of seat allotment. There is need of first time reporting at a reporting centre of NIT, IIEST, IIIT (Triple-I-T) or Other-GFTI.

The process of JoSAA counselling starts from the authorities on dated October 06, 2020, the whole process is online based.

Q. What is Freeze, Float, Slide and withdraw option in JoSAA Counselling?
Ans. JoSAA Seat allocation process
Seat allocation is a bit complex process for the candidates as now they have four options to opt from i.e.
Freeze: Candidates accept the offered seat and tells that they are
Content with the allocated academic program and that they do not want to play a part in further rounds of seat allocation. Such candidates will NOT be considered in further rounds of admission.
Float: Candidates accept the offered seat and tells that, if admission to an academic program of better or higher first choice in any Institute is offered, they will accept it. Else, they will continue with the currently accepted academic program. Such candidates will be considered in later rounds of admission.
Slide: Candidates accept the offered seat and tells that, if admission to an academic program of better / higher preference is offered within the same Institute, they will accept it. Such candidates will be taken into consideration for the later rounds of admission.
Withdraw: If initially any candidate had accepted some college as per seat allotment procedure and doesn’t wish to join the college, he/she may report to the college and withdraw their seat before the final round of seat allotment.
